 |
The year 2008 has started in the name of technology news for MAIN GROUP Corporation.
MAIN GROUP Corporation has happily put on trial a new rotary machine Model OMEGA 900 TPU-PU 14 st - for the production of TPU-PU boots.
The birth of this machine has been possible thanking to the technical collaboration of COFRA worldwide leader company, which has already bought a plant, thanking to OMEGA who has been the first to believe in the project buying the prototype and DOW who has tune up the material.
To all whom has been involved and has actively supported the project goes all our appreciation: CHEM TREND, INTERTES, MARENDON GERMANO, REPI.
INTRODUCTION TO THE OMEGA 900 PROJECT
There are currently two main categories of boots available: with protection features such as sole and tip for use in the safety sector or those without protection elements, so-called Wellington boots.
For both cases, the types of production methods differ one from the other in the different base materials and procedures used.
1. The first and more traditional is that based on the use of vulcanised rubber. The final product has excellent physical mechanical characteristics but is very heavy and costly due to the production process which requires a high proportion of manual work.
2. The second and probably most widespread is the technology based on the use of injected PVC. In this case the final product has good physical mechanical characteristics, an attractive price but is heavy and of little comfort in climates that are too hot or too cold.
3. The third production method is the most innovative and based on the use of single or dual-density polyurethane by injection. In this case the boot has excellent physical mechanical characteristics, is very light, with excellent thermal insulation but usually costly due to the use of a production process which is difficult, particular accessories like polyurethane sock and the low production output of existing systems.
The polyurethane boot market is currently about one million and a half pairs a year, a niche product.
MAIN GROUP Corporation has targeted this market because it is of high interest and has a strong growth potential as:
1. the rubber boot is now used only in Far Eastern countries and if we exclude historic brand names, it has an increasingly limited distribution in Western countries.
2. the PVC boot is less and less appreciated for the inconveniences mentioned above but also due to the environmental issues which tend to exclude the presence of PVC from goods of personal use.
3. an increasing and ever-established demand for light and comfortable products exists that can give added value even aesthetically speaking.
4. specialised products for use even in extreme conditions are increasingly appreciated by the market, having qualities which are easily attained through characteristics of lightness, thermal insulation, softness and the comfort of polyurethane products.
With the new demands of the market, MAIN GROUP Corporation proposes a system which:
1. emphasises the traditional advantages of polyurethane in single and dual -density boot production
2. eliminates or reduces the inconveniences typical of this production like low production output and high quantity of waste.
3. introduces new technological elements of sure interest and efficiency like the use of combined materials like TPU with PU.
4. reduces machine downtime thanks to a fast and efficient procedure of rapid change of the mould.
While the traditional productive process envisages the production of only single and / or dual density products in PU, MAIN GROUP Corporation finds itself on the wave of the great success with the introduction of the combined materials for safety footwear, having verified how this technology can be happily married with boot productions guaranteeing the advantages well known to all like:
1. enhanced physical mechanical characteristics of the TPU sole:
2. excellent characteristics of comfort and thermal insulation of the uppers in polyurethane;
3. resistance to cold and water-resistance of the soles in TPU;
4. thin thicknesses, brilliant colours and perfect copy of the features of the soles in TPU. |
